This well-acted and lovingly produced Swedish film had a little bit of everything: humor pathos drama and joy. The redemption that came eventually to Over after his long journey through depression following the accidental death of his pregnant wife was touching and beautiful. His narrative was spiced with hysterically funny interludes done tastefully in flashback. I loved this film and thought it was the best foreign film of 2016. It really is a story for all ages.
How can I convey the beautiful emotions and welcome humor in this film? The story of loneliness and loss punctuated by noisy new neighbors with irresistible immediacy is truly heartwarming. Lascar’s Over is cantankerous and injured. As his story unfolds he becomes forgivable and endeared. The women actors who play his mercifully intrusive new neighbor and his achingly wonderful recently deceased wife shape the story and the character of Over. Just writing this comment makes me want to see it again.
